A Pelvic floor physical therapist is a licensed physical therapist who has advanced training in the treatment of pelvic floor muscular dysfunctions. The pelvic floor muscle group is responsible for a variety of functions related to both Women and Men throughout their life span.
The pelvic floor muscles are like a hammock which attach from the coccyx/tailbone to the pubic bone of the pelvis. They help to hold up our organs (bowel, bladder, reproductive organs & intestines) and provide support to our spine. Pelvic floor muscles help with daily functions like sitting, standing, lifting, running toileting, pregnancy and intercourse. Pelvic floor physical therapist treats patients with pelvic pain, urinary & fecal incontinence, pain with intercourse, and constipation in both Men and Women. They also specialized in treating women during and after pregnancy.

No, you do not need a prescription initially for a physical therapy consult in New York state and in most states. However you are limited to 10 visits or within 30 days before having to get a prescription.
-
On average most clinics book multiple individuals at a time due to insurance reimbursement rates and need to book you multiple times a week due to time constraints. I can sit with you and give you the undivided attention needed to give you a thorough, detailed examination and treatments for your issues. Each evaluation will have a comprehensive assessment which may include a review of your medical history, and the need for an external or internal vaginal or rectal assessment to better examine the strength and integrity of the pelvic floor muscles. Depending on the finding we will determine the right plan for you.

Dr. Shana Anthony is not credentialed with any insurance providers. We prioritize autonomy in treating our clients, enabling us to offer one-on-one sessions for the level of care our patients need. This approach often leads to faster recovery in fewer visits. You can submit a claim to your insurance provider after treatment if you choose for reimbursement, and we can provide you with a detailed invoice called a “superbill”. We accept cash, credit card and HSA for payment at the time of your appointment for in-person visits and prior to for online consultations.

Certainly! It's quite common in our work as a pelvic health physical therapist, and it doesn't at all hinder us from continuing with sessions. We're more than happy to continue as long as you're comfortable with it. If necessary we can modify the sessions to accommodate your needs.
